Dr. Pavel Potužák

Dr. Pavel Potužák

Assistant Professor in Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business, Faculty of Economics, Department of Economics

The main area of Pavel Potužák´s research is the Austrian theory of the business cycle, capital, and interest. Additionally, he focuses on neoclassical theory of economic growth, interest, and monetary theory. In his work, he particularly strives to bridge the Austrian theory and mainstream economics. He received his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Economics at Prague University of Economics and Business in 2016. Since 2008, he has been teaching courses in theoretical economics at the Department of Economics. In 2010, he completed an internship at the University of Houston, where he studied Taylor’s Rule. He regularly attends international conferences, especially those of ESHET (The European Society for the History of Economic Thought), of which he is a member. The most notable presentations of his research focus on topics such as the Austrian theory of the business cycle, Hayek’s MV-rule, and the possibility of a zero natural rate of interest.

Dr. Vojtěch Kotrba

Dr. Vojtěch Kotrba

Assistant Professor in Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business, Faculty of Economics, Department of Economics

Vojtěch Kotrba is an economist specializing in Sports Economics, Behavioral Economics, and Experimental Economics. Holding a PhD from the Prague University of Economics and Business, He currently works as an assistant professor and serve as the lab manager at the Laboratory of Experimental Economics. His research delves into understanding human behavior through real-world and experimental data. In the sports domain, He has explored fan preferences on topics such as racial discrimination, the superstar effect, and the impact of athletes’ nationalities. Additionally, he has investigated the strategic aspects of fantasy sports, studying the optimality of behavior and decision-making strategies. Expanding on this line of inquiry, his interests also extend to esports, where he analyzes similarities with traditional sports fundamental principles. Simultaneously, he is currently engaged in experimental studies to understand human behavior within financial markets.

prof. Michele Battisti

prof. Michele Battisti

Director of the Graduate Centre for Development Studies (CDS), University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School

Michele Battisti is a Professor of Economics at the Adam Smith Business School. Michele has received a PhD in Economics from Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, Canada) in 2012.  His research interests are mainly within the large field of labour economics, with a focus on issues around migration, technological change, gender and health. A recent project of Michele estimates the welfare effects of international migration for non-migrants, taking account of both labour market and fiscal interactions. As part of another project, he has investigated how interactions between workers within a firm can affect labour market outcomes. Michele has also been working on the role of immigrant social networks on the employment and human capital investment decisions of newcomers to Germany. Focusing on asylum seekers, another project employs a field experiment based on a randomised control trial to evaluate the role of matching frictions for the labour market integration of forced migrants in Germany. Within a separate but related research agenda on the effects of innovation for individual workers, Michele has also worked on a project on the heterogeneous effects of technological and organisational change at the firm level for workers of different occupations, age and education levels. He is also working on projects related to the economics of gender and health economics.

Dr. Geethanjali Selvaretnam

Dr. Geethanjali Selvaretnam

Senior Lecturer in Economics, University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School

Geethanjali Selvaretnam is a Senior Lecturer at the Adam Smith Business School.  Geetha has served as the Director of Learning and Teaching of Undergraduate Programmes and the Deputy Head of the Adam Smith Business School, with a focus on EDI and Sustainability. Geetha has received her PhD in Economics at the University of Essex under the supervision of Prof. V. Bhaskar. She also holds an MBA from the University of Colombo (Sri Lanka) and is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Geetha previously worked at the University of Essex, Royal Holloway and at the University of St Andrews. She also worked at an accountancy firm and at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Dr. Mridula Duggal

Dr. Mridula Duggal

Adam Smith Career Development Fellow, University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School

Mridula Duggal is an Adam Smith Career Development Fellow at the Adam Smith Business School.  Her primary interests lie in Behavioural Macroeconomics with a focus on Monetary Policy and Inflation Expectations. More recently, she has been delving in to Networks to understand belief formation.  Mridula was a finalist for the ECB Young Economist Prize in 2023. Mridula has completed an MSc in Economics and International Financial Economics and an undergraduate degree from the University of Warwick. She holds a PhD from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Barcelona School of Economics.
